Gather Round Chicks and Chickas its time for a story! Come her Pablo, you get to set here on Omma’s Lap.

What are we reading today you say? Today we begin the Legend of Gregorio Cortex. Oh dear you say you never hear of Gregorio Cortex… Nonsense he was the greatest man that ever lived! Goodness what do they teach children now a days! Now let Your Omma tell you the real story of Gregorio Cortex.

Once their lived a man, a wonderfully manly man, named Gregorio Cortex. Gregorio Cortex looked the same as you and me but that’s what makes him such a character. Gregorio was a man of honor and tradition. He did was right in the world, no matter what people thought of the man. Gregorio happen to have a brother named Roman. Often the two would work together in their hometown along the Mexican border working long, and hard days out in the fields as did his Father did and his Father’s father did and his Father’s Father’s … well you know the rest of the story. Working in the field was the type of back breaking work that would never land you rich, but it was good honest works that strengthen the body and soul. Work that a Man such as Gregorio stature was proud to partake in.
But as with all happy stories things began starting to change for the worst within the Cortex Family. Roman bless his soul was good hearted man, but he had the inspirations of the younger folk. Reckless and energetic the man wanted a better, easier life for the two of them in the North. At first Gregorio was dead set against moving the two of them, but his Brother having the persuading skills of a thrifty demon finally convinced his brother that it was for the best. So the two of them moved to the North, living a somewhat different life then before. In the North work was just as hard but for a change Gregorio’s brother was finally happy for his lot in life. But one day there came a time when an American came up to his brother with a proposition to buy his Horse. But this is where the story changes. Hating all Americans the Brother tricked the man giving him a Lame Horse instead. The very next day that same American comes up to Roman with the Town’s Sheriff behide him. Within a split second the Sheriff Shots down Roman. Cortex being not too far away hears a gun being shot and races up to his brother and cradles the wounded soul in his bare arms. Fire Scourges Gregorio’s eyes as he loads a Hand pistol and fire one bullet deep, deep within the clutches of the Sheriff Skull and the dreaded deed is done. Cortex’s revenge is sweet but does not last. He can no longer live the life he once had, because as he knows he is now a wanted criminal that can never return.

Taking the body of his brother Gregorio rides into the sunset reaching their house and loading up on vital supplies for Gregorio’s last Journey. Soon all sorts of men hear of his crime and come in groups capture him. Tall ones, short ones, wild and deranged ones, they all came to put him in his place but none, not a soul could outrun our Hero Cortex. Being fortunate enough to find a stray horse along the pasture, Cortex take up the steed and ride off toward the Border where it all began. Being the clever Man that he was Cortex avoided every single one of the Sheriff tricks and traps and always come out of the scaffolds unharmed. It has be retold over and over again that as much as 300 men were after Cortex’s tail, But I’ll the truth no less then 1000 of the most despicable, rotten no good sheriffs chased the man though Mexico, but none were able to touch the man who was greater then the greatest good imagined. As Cortex was reaching the last leg of his journey he saw many things that unnerved him and made him question himself. He saw pregnant women being harassed and ogled by the lowlifes that were following him. The children were being beat and tossed into ground as though they were rag dolls mangled by dogs. He saw the Elders of the village whipped. He even saw a Small old grandma that could barely lift her selves out of bed being questioned and being held against their wall of her house all in the name of finding him. Realizing that his freedom was not worth the lives of his people, Cortex abandoned his journey and turned himself to the authorities, even though he so close to finally ending it once and for all. When in jail, life was boring to say the least. Nothing to do but sit and stair at walls for hours Cortex grew bored of the four walls that held him in. The guards were well trained and refused to have to any sort of conversation with the man.
The only person Cortex could talk to was the sweet little girl that came to his cell every morning evening to bring him his supper of rye bread and soup. The Girl’s character was someone who could brave anything that stood in her way and come up the clear victor. The girl had hair of such scarlet hue he had to wonder if the devil himself had bleed tears for the girl. Her body was petite and round. Smoother then glass crafted by the hand of artisans, her curves highlighted every one of her assets and hid any sort of flaw. But it was her eyes that they spoke volumes to Cortex. A Warm healthy brown, the glowing orbs hinted at girl who past was expertly hidden. When looked at a certain angles they danced and smiled in mischief of the wildest kind. The wonderfully rapscallion girl her name was Molly Marabous Lincoln and Cortex was timidly taken heart and soul by this creature. As Cortex’s hearing trials grew nearer and nearer, he braved what ever doubt held him back all those months spent in solitude, and proclaimed his love to the willing maiden and the 2 escaped the jail unnoticed. The future was bright for the two of them, as they have many children together without her father ever knowing where she was and who she had chosen to live the rest of her life with, And it is with great pleasure of being the story teller of this tail that I can truthfully say this is the end of the Legend of Gregorio Cortex.
